ILL MANORS FILM REVIEW

Key points
Evidence from movie
Justify
Director - Who is it and what else have they directed that you have heard of?

Ben Drew is the director of iLL Manors (better known by his stage name Plan B)
Ben Drew chose to direct this movie in a way where he, at the end, is driving Riz Ahmed away. This shows that he is the one who's leading Riz Ahmed off his old ways. Symbolises Ben Drew's main intentions to the audience.

Main Stars - Who are they? Will people be familiar with them already? What are they known for?
The main characters are Aaron (Riz Ahmed) and Ed (Ed Skrein). Riz Ahmed played one of the main roles in Four Lions which went on to gross £6.9 million which is just under 3 times their budget for the movie.
Ed Skrein was featured in small roles for programmes like Game Of Thrones and The Tunnel but big roles.  However, Riz Ahmed featured in a few movies over the course of the years. As a result of this, his recognition by the audience would be right away.
Plot - What is the film about?

The film is based in East London and focuses on the lives of 2 individuals who are involved in illegal activities. The narrative shows us the lives of many individuals who all come handy in different parts of the movie. The movie uses factors such as drugs, prositution, sex, gangs and violence to show the main narrative of the movie.
Ben Drew's intention of this narrative was to show the struggles and issues that young adults/young teens face nowadays.
Characters - Who are the main ones and which actors play them? Comment on the quality of the acting.
Main Characters
  • Riz Ahmed (Aaron)
  • Ed Skrein (Ed)
  • Keith Coggins (Kirby)
  • Lee Allen (Chris)
The acting by each of these actors was highly professional as they stuck to their role.

Genre - What type of film is it? Does it fit your expectations for this type of film? How would you describe the mood?
The genre of iLL Manors is a crime/ drama.
The movie included a lot of violance and illegal activities which showed us the Crime bit of the movie. The movie also included a lot of dramatic scenes to fit into the category of drama.

Soundtrack - Did you notice/like/dislike it? How did it create atmosphere?
The soundtrack fit in with the opinions of most of the characters in the movie. Plan B created this song and also made a video for the song.
The song built sympathy in the audience for these people. To society individuals doing illegal activities such as sellign drugs etc. may only be doing it because they have no source of income, care or help. To the audience they seem helpless to their own life that they are living.
Audience - Who is it aimed at and do you recommend it? Why?
The movie is aimed towards young adults/teenagers.
I think this is because the movie would relate to a lot of people creating a kind of relationship between them.
