Research and planning Task #2: Institution Research

BBC THREE

BBC Three is an English television channel from the BBC broadcasting. The channel is only on air from  7pm to 4 am every night. This authentically means that during the day the channel is asleep and has nothing showing till 7pm. The channel's target audience includes those in the 16–34-year-old age group. This channel shows mostly drama and comedy for young adults. These programmes include Family Guy, EastEnders and Being Human.

E4

E4 is a British digital television channel that also targets the audience of 15-35 year olds. Unlike BBC Three, E4 broadcasts throughout the day and night. E4 programmes include Skins, Misfits, The Big Bang Theory and Shameless. E4 is the channel that broadcasted the world known, Inbetweeners. The Inbetweeners was E4’s most watched programme in this decade. The top 6 most watched programmes that were aired on E4 all were The Inbetweeners episodes. This suggests that E4 was the perfect show for E4's target audience by being a comedy about young teenagers.

When E4 begin to broadcast at 4pm they show cartoons and programmes of the same genre. As time goes on they begin to show programmes such as Hollyoaks and The Big Bang Theory at around 6pm. At approximately 9pm, after watershed, E4 begins to show programmes such as Skins, The Inbetweeners and Misfits as these programmes are ranged for young adults. These programmes would not be allowed to be shown before watershed as they include foul language and scenes of sex, drugs etc.
